Here at Steady Movers we know that moving into a new home that is possibly in a new city or state is a big deal. Not only is it exciting, but there are a lot of things you need to get done before your move is final. We would like to help you out a little bit by giving you some information on what you should do to prepare for your families big move. Let us break down for you what you should be thinking about in the few weeks prior to your move.

Eight weeks before your residential move there are many things you should already be thinking about. The most important part will be if you have children. If you have children that are still in school, you will need to start searching the web for the best school in your area for them. If you are moving to a big city, there will be many different options when it comes to schooling. This is the time to figure out if you want to send them to a private school or public school. You will also need to think about what is important to you in schools. Thanks to the web, you can now search how large the school may be and what type of teachers they have. These sites will also be able to tell you if they have won any awards. Once you have found your new school, you will then need to transfer school records, which is quite easy. Also, you should notify your insurance company of your new address.

When you are six weeks away from your move it is time to find a moving company. Of course, we suggest you use us here at Steady Movers. We are available all across the country and even have long distance or overseas moving services. Once you have found your moving company, you will want to start asking for referrals to new doctors, attorneys and any other services you may need in your new home. If you have a pet, you may want to get them a check up to make sure they are healthy for the move and the vet may be able to assist you in finding a new one.

At four weeks out, you still have more things to do. The most important will be notifying trash, newspapers, and utility companies of when you would like your services turned off. If you are making a long-distance move to a new state, they most likely use different utility companies. You will then need to call all of your new services to notify them when you new home will need to be turned on.

As you can see, there are many things you need to start thinking about even two months before your actual move. We hope that this short list has helped you to start thinking about everything you may need to do in order to have a smooth and safe move.
